On October 9, 2010, Australia showed the world why they are the leaders in health and fitness endurance sports racing, as mens competitor Chris McCormack from Sydney captured the title of toughest endurance athlete, winning the Ironman World Championship, while Mirinda Carfrae of Brisbane won the women’s division.

McCormack clocked in with a time of 8 hours, 10 minutes and 37 seconds overall, winning the event by a slight one minute and 40 seconds over Germany’s Andreas Raelert. The race was neck and neck between McCormack and Raelert, with McCormack utilizing his impressive Aussie health and fitness endurance skills to pull away in the last leg of the marathon to claim victory.
