The first decade of the 21st century was not kind to the Cathedral City High School football team. The team has not won more than four games in any season since 2004, and in the last two years they won two games combined.

In early February, 2010, Cathedral City athletic officials decided to christen the new decade with change, and that change comes in the form of new Head Coach Rich McClure.

McClure, offensive coordinator at San Jacinto High School for the past three seasons, was introduced to the Lions’ faithful on February 4, 2010, and he plans to shake things up right away, bringing along with him his no-huddle spread offense.

McClure had great success at San Jacinto, helpingĀ  to lead the Tigers to two CIF-SS title games. McClure was also the head coach at Banning High School, and has been involved in coaching since graduating from Northern Arizona University.

On Saturday, August 28, McClure will be holding a 2010 kick-off breakfast, titled “Legacy Potluck Brunch”, at 9:30 AM in the Cathedral City High School multi-purpose room. All 90 CCHS players will be attending, and it will be McClure’s first opportunity to meet his players’ parents.

He is also asking his senior players to each share a few words about what Cathedral City High School football means to them, and the legacy that they would each like to leave.

CCHS kicks off their 2010 season at home on Friday, Sept. 3 against Brawley.
